We all desire to look our best, yet having a contoured body sometimes requires work, especially to keep that positive shape Although the doctors at Plastic Surgery Center in Portland Maine do not promise miracles, it is possible to have a more contoured body with Liposuction. If you have excess fat, which is resistant to dieting and exercise, you may be a candidate for liposuction. Liposuction will change the contours of your body, such as under the chin, the upper arms and armpits, male chest/breasts, trunk, the abdomen, waist, hips, thighs, inner knees, calves, and ankles. Liposuction will permanently improve the contour and proportion of the treated areas. The goal is to create a more flattering figure or shape, in or out of clothing.
Here at the Plastic Surgery Center, this procedure is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with IV sedation. Small suction tubes called cannulas are inserted through tiny incisions placed in inconspicuous locations near the fat deposits, and excess fat is then removed.
Following this surgery, patients go home in a first stage compression garment or tape covering the treated areas. After soreness decrease, a second stage garment is worn for an additional three to four weeks. Total compression time is approximately one month to help reduce swelling. Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Bruising and swelling usually subside in two to four weeks. The final result takes shape over two to three months; however, final contours may not be evident for as long as six months.
