BREAST AUGMENTATION (Mammaplasty)

In today’s society every woman wants to look her best and feel that her body is as contoured and attractive as possible. Unfortunately women with small breasts tend to feel they are not as attractive.
Women who naturally have small breasts or whose breasts have became smaller after pregnancy may be candidates for breast enlargement (also known as breast augmentation). The doctors at Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Weisberg and Dr. Cederna have performed many breast augmentations over the years with very positive results,
Breast augmentation has been performed safely for more than 30 years. Currently there are two types of implants, saline and silicone. Both are FDA approved. During your initial consultation Dr. Weisberg or Dr. Cederna we will gladly discuss options available to you. You can also view before-and-after photos of breast augmentation here at our web site, as well as during your consultation.
The Surgery
In breast augmentation, the breasts are enlarged by surgically placing an implant behind the breast gland (right illustration) or, in some cases, behind the pectoralis muscle under the breast (left illustration).
The size and shape of the natural breast determines the best placement. At your initial consultation, we discuss placement recommendations with you. Before breast augmentation, we require you to have a mammogram. Breast augmentation also may be combined with mastopexy to restore breast shape.
The Recovery
After surgery, a soft compressive dressing will be placed around your chest before you awaken from the anesthesia. One or two days later when this dressing is removed. You should avoid impact exercises and athletics for this time period.
The breasts may feel tight at first as the skin adjusts to the new breast size, and the breasts themselves may seem firm at first, though they do soften in time. Swelling is common and usually begins to fade within a few weeks. Increased sensitivity to physical contact of the breasts may occur for a month or longer. The scars will be pink right after surgery and for several weeks, but will fade over a period of several months.
